Basic Wilderness First Aid (BWFA) is a 16-20 hour program of instruction addressing the very basic preparation and assessment, preventing and caring for injuries, environmental hazards, biological hazards, and medical emergencies in wilderness environments. Subject matter topics cover-down on wilderness first aid from a basic understanding  of emergency response in an outdoor setting to specific techniques and considerations for a wide range of incidents with limited resources.  Subject matter topics include:

  • Environmental Hazards
  • Wilderness Wound and Burn Care
  • Biological Hazards
  • Bone and Joint Injuries
  • Assessing and Treating Other Problems

1. How you train is how you perform! Wilderness First Aid continues under continues forward regardless the weather (w/ exception of lightning). Be prepared to conduct training in wet, muddy, cold or hot environments.
